Concrete pavers are a good option for your patio. You can also use concrete pavers to divide your sidewalk or other concrete. However, weeds can grow and ruin the appearance of your home. Although you can spray weedkiller and blast them with the power washer, these methods are not likely to last the season. You can stop weeds from growing by using polymeric sand to seal the concrete joints. Here are the steps and what you need to do it.
Mix white vinegar with one teaspoon of dish soap in a spray can. This will stick the vinegar to the weeds enough to kill them. To get the best results, spray the weeds when there is intense heat and sunlight. The vinegar will then absorb into the weeds.
You have two options: wait until tomorrow to remove dead weeds, or you can dig them up right away. Before sealing up concrete joints, make sure that all existing weeds have been removed. You can pull them out with your hands, or a flathead screwdriver.
Pour the sand in the concrete joints with a cup. With your broom, sweep the sand in the joints. A leaf blower can be used to blow out the excess sand. This will prevent the concrete from getting stained. Don't forget to do this!
Once you're certain that the concrete joints are free of sand, don't forget to spray the concrete with a garden hose. The sand should be reapplied with three to four water sprays. Two important points to remember when you do this. One: Avoid puddling. Second, don't wait more than 3 minutes between each spray. You should apply small sections at a stretch to avoid letting the soil sit for too long before watering. Let your patio dry completely after you are done spraying.
You should protect your concrete joints from weed flare-ups by sealing them with polymeric sand.
